18 Months!

Molly is one of my very best friends.
She left on her mission in October 2009.
It seems like AGES since I've seen her.
My life has changed SO much since she left.
She is coming home
TOMORROW
and I can't wait!

Yay!

I'm not being greedy but....

A fixed or established mode or procedure or course of life, usually dull or uncompromising.  This is the dictionary definition of a rut.

These past few months, I have definitely been in one.  I've been in a home rut, and a crafting rut, and a work rut.  It's starting to become a life rut.

I'm really grateful for everything that I have, but it just seems like when one good thing happens, three bad things happen immediately after.  I'm just waiting for it all to get easier.  I have a relatively easy life.  It shouldn't be this difficult.

It all comes back to money.  They say money doesn't buy happiness, but I think it would do a lot to help the cause for me.

It is time for change.  Something has got to give.

You can call me Martha.

I spent the afternoon crafting today, and I actually accomplished something.  Not just something, but TWO things.  This is quite rare.  Rare enough that I think
I must share it.

First up is an apron that I started a while ago.  I got about half way done, and put it away.  It hadn't been seen since, until today, when I found it, and decided it needed to be finished. Technically, it came in a kit that you just have to cut out, iron, and sew together, which is kind of like cheating, but it was real cute.  The good thing about the kit is that now I can re-create it whenever I like.  The model here is my nephew who made me promise not to show his face...teenagers....

Second is a pot holder car kit.  I made one for my car, and one for Kurt's car.  I saw one of these in Natalie's car, and knew I needed to make it.  It was super easy!  All it took was a (thin) pot holder, a button, 8 snack sized ziplock bags, and a ribbon.  Mine contains: Colgate wisps, nail clippers, tweezers, safety pins, gum, flossers, q-tips, bandaids, neosporin, bobby pins, pony tails, chapstick, emergency cash, antacids, and tylenol.

Utah Blaze or how I spent the night laughing at sports.

Sports aren't really my thing.  I've never really been interested in playing them, and I don't get a whole lot of joy out of watching them on TV, but if I'm actually at the game, they are usually pretty fun.

On Thursday, we went to the Utah Blaze season opener against the Tampa Bay Storm.  Can I just say that arena football is definitely for people who are too lazy to play real football.  I mean come on.  The field is half the size, and the guys are twice as big.  Apparently they aren't big on running.   The side walls are just padded hockey boards, and they whine like little girls when they get hit into them.

The short field gave way for some pretty high score though.  The Blaze won it 72-36. There were a lot of people there all decked out in team colors, with their faces painted to match.  It was intense.

AFL may be for some people, but for me it was a big thumbs down.

Renew The Vow

On today's McFatty Monday post, Blair talked about an article she read in Good Housekeeping magazine that talked about renewing your vow to stick with weight loss daily.  In the article, Dr. Oz says that when we see how challenging our task is, we fizzle out, but if we just try to follow the plan for 24 hours and remind ourselves why we want it, it is easier to stick to.

I feel like this describes my week quite well.  I started the week with a committment to not eat treats for 30 days.  I had planned on doing a shorter version of lent with a friend, whose friend is greek orthodox.  I had to keep telling myself to just make it through today.  I ended up deciding that a week was long enough to go with NO treats, and that I would just continue to make healthy choices.

I did eat suprisingly well all week.  I drank a TON of water, and I made sure that I exercised a sufficient amount of time.  It is definitely getting easier to get off of my lazy butt and work out.  I am quite proud of myself.

Oh yeah....I've lost 4 pounds!

Let the organization begin!

My sisters-in-law all have the cutest crafts at their house.  Heather has a calendar that I admire every time I go there.  She offered to help me make one and I gladly accepted!

TADA!

Hear Me Roar!

Since today is the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, I wanted to share my thoughts on being a woman, and some thoughts on the influential women in my life.

The women that I am friends with are all strong, independent, amazing people.  Each one of them is great, but they all have special qualities that make them uniquely who they are.  I wouldn't be the woman I am today without any of them.

My family is made up of females.  My grandma has two daughters.  My aunt has two daughters.  My cousin has two daughters.  And my mom has four daughters.  Being female has never been anything to be ashamed of in my household.  It has always been celebrated.  I married a man with four sisters.  I am surrounded by women in every direction, and I love it.  Sure, it might be a little simpler to live a life without so many opinions, but I love the bond I have with these women.  I love the stories they tell, and the advice that they give.  I am proud of who I am, and I love that they are as well.

Sure God created man before woman. But then you always make a rough draft before the final masterpiece. ~Author Unknown
